Peter Gear first established “Shetland Grasscutting Services” in the spring of 1997, as a “sole trader”.
We’re Shetland’s largest grounds-maintenance contractors. Our main customers have always been municipal and commercial, although we take a pride in maintaining a considerable number of domestic gardens as well.
We’re located at 5a Gremista Industrial Estate in Lerwick, and operate throughout Shetland. We employ over 20 staff every summer, and retain approximately half a dozen crew throughout the winter months, when we do gritting and snow-clearing, as well as border maintenance, shrub pruning, pressure-washing, garden renovations, tree work, and the like.
We don’t just cut grass! 🙂 Our grounds maintenance services include hedge-trimming, weed-spraying, weeding, planting, tree-maintenance, and so forth. For a full list of our services, click here.
We’re CHAS safety-accredited. CHAS (Contractors Health And Safety scheme) is a government-administered SSIP (Safety Schemes In Procurement) scheme, whereby contractors are assessed annually to check whether essential safety standards are being met.
Our most experienced and highly-qualified staff can advise you on designing and building your soft and hard-landscaped areas (or if we’ve got too much work on, we can point you in the direction of other good local firms).
Our firm became a limited company, “Grounds Maintenance Solutions Ltd”, in 2009. Our main trading name is still “Shetland Grasscutting”, and our managing director is Peter Gear.
We also own “Shetland Radiator Repairs”, which was previously owned by Dennis Garrick (and traded as R&D Garrick), and as another side-venture have recently been developing software for industry. For details of our other enterprises, click here.
